Surfactant Interfacial Effects on Viscosity Measurement
Application Note
Surfactant Impacts:
Measurement Principles of Optically Tracked and VROC® Viscometers
Any viscometer that follows an advancing air–liquid interface (meniscus) can be subject to additional viscosity artifacts when the sample contains surfactant.
This application note describes these artifacts and how they are treated by two different measurement principles: an optically tracked viscometer, in which the meniscus itself is the sensor, and VROC® technology, in which pressure is measured at fixed positions inside the channel. The distinction matters because the two approaches do not respond to the meniscus in the same way.
We will also share the data for VROC® measurements of a viscosity standard with added polysorbate 80.
