Determining Intrinsic Viscosity in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR)

Application Note

Application Note

Improve EOR Processes with Quick and Accurate Polymer Measurements

This application note details the process to determine intrinsic viscosity of polymers used in enhanced oil recovery processes. Measuring intrinsic viscosity is critical during the R&D stages of Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) because it quantifies the polymer’s “thickening ability” allowing for more effective decision-making during development.

For this app note, we performed shear viscosity measurements with the microVISC PRO for intrinsic viscosity analysis of an EOR polymer dissolved in tap water. The microVISC PRO allows for simple high throughput testing of polymer samples including built-in temperature con
