Application Note - Evaluation of Polymers as Monoclonal Antibody Mimics

Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) are man-made proteins with promising applications in the treatment of different diseases. For direct injectability characterization (i.e. injection force measurement) of mAbs, a relatively high volume of antibody sample is required which is neither ideal nor cost-effective.

In recent years there has been an increasing interest in developing antibody mimics and using them as simplified, stable, and inexpensive models to replicate and understand monoclonal antibodies (mAbs).  Polyethylene Oxide (PEO) and Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC) are two most frequently used polymers for antibody mimics.

In this application note, we show how we use the RheoSense VROC® initium one plus to measure the viscosity of these polymers at different concentrations during a shear rate sweep experiment and compare their rheological behavior with the mAbs provided by Comera Life Sciences.
