Viscosity and dielectric constant are among the most important physical properties of an electrolyte, having a direct impact on ion mobility, conductivity, and battery performance for a wide range of temperatures experienced. For battery applications, relatively high dielectric constant solvents, like ethylene carbonate (EC), are typically combined with low viscosity solvents, like dimethyl carbonate (DMC) and ethyl methyl carbonate (EMC) to achieve an electrolyte with desired viscosity, dielectric constant, and higher conductivity.
