Extensional Viscosity (Blood)

Measuring Steady Shear and Extensional Bovine γ-Globulin Solution Viscosity

Application Note Download

The different types of viscosity are defined by the specific applied deformation and resulting stress response of the fluid.

Flow channel geometry can be varied to produce different types of continuous deformation.

eVROC_with_edges

VROC® microfluidic flow channels are available with a uniform cross-section for steady shear viscosity measurement or a centrally located hyperbolic contraction-expansion for extensional viscosity estimation. In this application note, we measure model protein solutions suspended in different buffer formulations in both types of channels to illustrate the differences in fluid response between the two types of deformation.
