Application Note - Single Point Intrinsic Viscosity Analysis

The intrinsic viscosity coefficient reflects the characteristics of individual macromolecules in a particular solvent and is often considered a valuable tool in quality control or as a screening method to assess the final product after polymer synthesis or modification.

The full protocol, which involves measurement of a concentration series in the dilute regime, is not always ideal for a quick screening method. However, the process can often be reduced to a measurement at a single dilute concentration to expedite the analysis.

In this application note, we derive and utilize the Solomon-Ciuta equation to calculate the single point intrinsic viscosity of polycaprolactone-chloroform solutions at multiple dilute concentrations.
