Application Note - Intrinsic Viscosity Analysis – Polycaprolactone in Chloroform

The intrinsic viscosity coefficient reflects the characteristics of individual macromolecules in a particular solvent.

Intrinsic viscosity analysis is a common characterization tool for synthetic polymers since it provides information on individual molecules in solution. With the VROC® initium one plus, automated viscosity measurements are possible for formulations prepared in organic solvents as well as aqueous. The automated system facilitates dilute solution viscosity measurements and therefore the intrinsic viscosity analysis.

In this application note, the steady shear viscosity was measured for a dilute concentration series of polycaprolactone-chloroform solutions.
